A good surprise and somewhat unusual process I used, I wanted to make a motherboard-like design, but I wanted to look conssistent with real chips, so I used a free software called PCB creator that you can designreal Motherboard designs. I design the base for my motherboard there, exported to illustrator where I re-drew and re-designed most parts but keeping the authentic chip motives.
In Modo I made some simple models in layers and planes with basic texturing to get the depth I wanted without being over the top and without making the design disappear in a complicated FX fest.
About 5 hours to make + 9 hours of rendering.
